From the English “Environmental, Social and Corporate Governance”, the acronym ESG entered the current vocabulary of Portuguese companies.
The companies of 2025 no longer aim only to maximize their profits – they also support their activity on pillars of environmental, social and corporate governance sustainability that contribute to building a better future for the entire community.
New legislation, European and national, has been gradually transposing ESG practices to the field of hard-law, creating new incentives for Portuguese companies to review their values, plans and internal instruments in this area.
Ana Rita Carmo, Lawyer at Paramount Legal, together with colleagues from Ellint Next, prepared a brief comparative analysis of the most relevant topics relating to ESG in various jurisdictions.
